Juan Hernandez, a beekeeper at Boone Hall for nine years, recently received his Certified Beekeeper certificate from the South Carolina Beekeepers Association (SCBA). Susan Crook, the Director of the Master Beekeeper Program for SCBA, presented his certificate to Juan on Friday, August 30, 2024 here at Boone Hall. Juan’s accomplishment demonstrates his commitment to education and the hands on practice of beekeeping. The Master Beekeeper Program is the educational extension of the SC Beekeepers Association and certifies beekeepers by assessing that they meet a rigorous standard of both knowledge and skills. Juan does a phenomenal job in keeping the bees at Boone Hall, which provide the fresh honey sold at Willie’s Roadside Market, as well as being a vital part of our local vegetation food production with pollination.
