Let us begin by exploring what 'innocence' is not... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Innocence is not to be confused with virtue. The pursuit of virtue is a hiding-to-nothing - mostly because it presumes the lack of virtue as a starting place. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ How can any of us be born into this world, as open, innocent and bright-eyed as we all were and then set about on a mission to then become virtuous? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We were all pure from birth, with no exception. Yes, ancestral trauma is a thing, encoded into our bodies for sure - but gaze into the eyes of any newborn child and witness a soul gazing back with no expectation of how the world is. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The filters that fall over all our eyes take a while to descend. In the beginning all of us are born without expectation ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Whatever you see here as no baring on your innocence. It is always there. Still.
