LOVING JUSTICE GUIDELINES Today I started teaching my course "Unraveling the Trauma-Conflict Web" with @education4racial_equity! This is a new course offering that has pushed me to develop my Loving Justice model in much more depth and detail. Here are four community agreements or guidelines that I often use when facilitating conflict-related processes: LOVE L is for Let Each Person Choose Their Path - Choosing is more important than doing, consent is key O is for Openness to Multiple Truths - Making room for multiple truths. No one owns the truth. V is for Valuing Imperfection - Make space for mistakes in the spirit of learning. Receive feedback with an attitude of gratitude. Make space for being human. E is for Equity & Justice for All - Stand up for justice for yourself and others. Name power dynamics, address harms & transform harmful practices. These are challenging guidelines that call us in to hold challenging topics! We may not wish to be open to multiple truths - we may have had experiences where the idea of "multiple truths" was used to harm us. We may not want to receive feedback with gratitude, because the feedback was harsh or mean-spirited. And yet if we hold our guidelines with grace and center the notion of LOVE - weaving it all together, I believe these guidelines can help us to create an environment for a deeper and more powerful conversation.
