“Why so serious?” The Joker. The Dark Knight Seriously I’m serious when it comes to mental health, trauma, the environment and so many other issues but not standing in my underpants.. Some of you may have noticed there’s a trend of cis gender women posting pics of themselves in the mirror in their undies or photos of themselves in a bikini showing off their bare butts and that they are of predominantly one body type. And parents posting pictures of their adult children with a tagline like ‘so proud of you baby girl’ ? Hello what’s going on here? I’m all for celebrating our beautiful bods, showing our freedom and letting it all hang loose I just don’t understand how this particular image is empowering us women? And what message are we trying to send to them people on the other side of the screen and to ourselves? I tried it. I didn’t feel empowered posting these pics nor can I see how it empowers others. I do not feel empowered looking at another woman’s body posing in that ‘way’ with that ‘expression’ in a tiny bikini. It makes me feel sad. I’d love to know what you all feel about this current trend. Who are we doing this for? What are we doing this for? What message are we trying to send people on the other side of the screen?
