The Garhwal Himalaya is the place for many Hindu pilgrimage sites. One of the most important is Gaumukh - the source of Baghirathi which is the most important headstream of the Ganga. From Gangotri with its holy Ganga temple, a twenty kilometers long hike leads to Gaumukh in the middle of the impressive mountain circle of the Garhwal Himalaya.
