Iran’s regime had created a powder keg composed of repressive human rights laws and oppressive policies targeting women and LGBTQ people. Amini’s death while in custody sparked an ongoing revolution. Officials in Iran have chosen to uphold the repressive Iranian regime at any cost, including the cost of human life. Since the September protests, Iran’s police have killed hundreds of Iranians including many children and teenagers. Iran’s Revolutionary Court system has been speedily sentencing many of the arrested protesters and are now carrying out public executions. According to Amnesty International, confessions to crimes have been coerced under torture. As of January 7, 2023, four men have been executed through Iran’s Revolutionary Courts.
