Stopping a race is always a bad feeling. It is like losing a part of your own confidence, breaking down your ego. Stopping is like finishing last in the race, but on the other hand, losing is also part of the sport. If it was too easy it would not be “so much fun”. I learned that in ultra-running if you want to see the finish line you have to be humble and honest with yourself. I learn at every race and even more when I do not deliver a good race. It has been difficult to finish the season correctly the last 2 years, and these are due to accumulated tiredness and work balance that impacted my health and motivation, once again it is part of the game. But I also learned that doing a shorter preparation is better for me at this time of the year, even for a bigger race! Merci Adrien. So I still managed to train smart and to arrive as healthy as possible. But I underestimated a small injury I had under my foot and used a model of a shoe that is most likely injuring my plantar fascia because my feet are quite wide. So instead of thinking about comfort, I thought about the performance of my choice of shoe and went for a marathon-type shoe (Phantasm) for the first 110km before changing for a more comfortable shoe (Genesis). I usually love this Phantasm but I simply overestimated the distance I am capable of running in these. It resulted in total foot inflammation quickly after kilometer 30. I therefore, stopped at km 56 knowing I would not reach the 110km aid station like this. I think my ego needed a little reminder and my feet more attention ;). I also got to test the new barres from @ta.energy and very happy about it, very easy to eat! The only issue is that now I am very eager to start another 100 miles when I was planning on taking some weeks off. What is sure is that I will run another 100 miles distance so I can finish it properly again :) I might also come back next year, this is a very cool event, challenging on its own and unique way. Thanks all for following along! Congratulations to everyone who finished 🏆 Thank you @topptor and @salomon.norway for the pictures! @ta.energy @corosfrance #kullamannen #100miles #utmb #utmbworldseries #dnf #mountainrunning
