q: have you ever read a book and enjoyed it despite centering on a trope that you usually don’t like?
“trope marketing” does tend to flatten out some of the nuance of the reading experience, and for me, WHERE WE END & BEGIN by @jane_igharo is a perfect personal example. without spoiling the book, one massive plot point uses a trope/story type that usually is a no-go for me. but the story itself is so lovely and moving, and the characters so rich and engrossing, that it didn’t even cross my mind until after i’d finished reading. proof, i guess, that tropes are helpful as guidelines and fun in conversation, but not the end all be all.
thanks @berkleyromance for this lovely read!
