my one man show 'Sweet Lorraine' about my grandmother is next week at @elysiantheater at 8 (ticket lincoln bio) it really is a work in progress and process. she was my best friend and guardian and grew up across the street from me. i was raised by a single mom so she really stood in the gap for our family, like a lot of black grandmothers do, without fail or fanfare. my dad wasn't really around and wasn't a good dad so when he died last month it made me miss my Lorraine more. i wasn't sad at all when he died, i just wanted my Lorraine. she passed last september around this time and i miss her everyday. she was the funniest person i ever knew and loved me unconditionally. anything good in me was nurtured by Lorraine. any toughness in me, nurtured by Lorraine. any softness was nurtured by Lorraine. humor, Lorraine. a sweet, tough, elegant, hilarious no nonsense woman from georgia. she told me to get a first class seat when i visited n.y., to be generous and be kind to people. Love and Lorraine is all that truly matters, you can keep the rest, ya goofy. ❤️💅🏾
