Since the mid 2000s, lack of funding has been a major obstacle to maintaining (much less planting) sidewalk trees in Oakland. However, the City of Oakland is now developing an urban forest master plan. Here is a survey where you can share your opinions about sidewalk trees in Oakland. It's open through June 25. I encourage you to take the survey and then share it with other Oaklanders. The city needs a mandate from its residents in order to prioritize and fund tree care and planting. Let's give it to them!
