Today marks the 3rd Annual National #CROWNDay aka Black Hair Independence Day, created to end hair discrimination that black people face too often in the workplace and schools. To date, legislation has been passed in 16 states, (not including states without all cities ie. Ohio, Texas) only about 3 more states than in 2021. More work needs to be done - we must support passing the federal bill to protect black women, men and children in workplaces and schools nationwide from hair discrimination. Race based hair discrimination “which is the denial of employment and educational opportunities because of hair texture or protective hairstyles including braids, locs, twists or bantu knots,” must end. I celebrate creativity of hairstyles with natural, Afro-textured hair and my love for my fave style - the Afro.
