It can be so tempting to want to fix all of our little one’s problems. After all, isn’t it our job as parents to keep them safe and loved and nurtured? More often than not, I have found my children just need a safe space to let all of those feelings manifest outwardly. We hug it out, get down to their level, listen to their feelings and apologize when we don’t have the capacity to hold their space and loose it. The holiday season is prime time for overwhelm and I know I have to kick my parenting gear up a notch to ground myself to keep them grounded. By reminding myself that I don’t have to ‘fix’ it, I find it easier to be present. I try to remember that children are remarkable problem solvers and often find their own way to fixing things in the end.
