"Giving birth in a time of death: A love letter to my daughter." 1- I never thought I would be sentimental about being pregnant, but I became intensely protective and tender as Luna grew. It was so hard being so far away from our big families. So, we decided to name her months before her birth as a way to actualize her existence for them but also for us. 2- Every ultrasound was precious and confirmed her growth and health despite my fears brought on by the pandemic. One of the worst parts of our appointments was being alone and having Gabe Facetime in from the car. For the next few days I am going to be posting images and words from my story published on @natgeo about being Black and pregnant during a pandemic. #blacklivesmatter #blackmaternalhealth This work was supported by the National Geographic Society.
