"La casa della Caccia Antica, risalente al II sec. a.C., rispetta pienamente nella parte anteriore la pianta tipica della casa romana con ingresso, atrio e tablinum, posti su un unico asse. A causa dello spazio limitato, il peristilio nella parte retrostante è invece fortemente irregolare. Anziché quattro colonnati, ne ha solo due, i quali per lo più formano un angolo acuto. Tra gli affreschi, realizzati alcuni anni prima dell’eruzione e restaurati nel 2016,spiccano due quadretti mitologici appartenenti alla decorazione dell’ambiente centrale che dà sul giardino. Si vedono il dio Apollo e una Ninfa nonché Diana e Atteone, cacciatore che fu trasformato in un cervo dalla dea perché l’aveva vista nuda mentre faceva il bagno". . . . The house, dating back to the 2nd century BC, fully represents the typical layout of a Roman house with an entrance, atrium and tablinum all on a single axis. Because of the limited space, the peristylium at the back is highly irregular. It has only two columns instead of four, which mostly form an acute angle. Among the frescoes, made some years before the eruption as part of the restoration works, two mythological paintings stand out, belonging to the decoration of the central area, overlooking the garden. One can see the god Apollo and a Nymph, as well as Diana and Actaeon, a hunter who was turned into a stag by the goddess because he had seen her naked while she was bathing.
