@drmartensusa asked me, “Has my culture or heritage shaped the person I am today?”
I answered,
I have always said my heritage has shaped the person I am today. My mom and dad from the very beginning have inadvertently instilled a deep love for our Mexican heritage. I grew up running around in my fathers picturesque pueblo in México. San Juan De Abajo. May was the most exciting month for me growing up because my family and I would spend it in México and so many people and experiences from there have shaped me.
Who I am and how I translate that into creative acts of expression is actually the converging of all the kind, exciting, and eclectic souls from the early years of my life. This of course includes my family who made the deepest impressions on me but also the eccentric friends who were from the same pueblo as us, those deep Compadres and Comadres of my parents who for all intents and purposes became an extended family. All these people have shaped me so much into the individual I am today.
