When I see posts about how 2020 was the “worst year ever” it makes me sad. Yes, 2020 challenged me to my core. It was a year of so much personal loss, frustration, and anxiety, but also a year of acceptance, gratitude, and many silver linings. . When 2020 started, @theclamdan and I were gearing up for the best year ever in our business. We had 27 retreats scheduled in just the first half of 2020 alone. Little did we know, 2.5 months later, all of our hard work would be flattened by a global pandemic. So naturally, I got angry, thinking about all of my time and energy wasted, for income that would never actualize. And then I got anxious, thinking about what was to come... Would the world ever be “normal” again? Would I ever get to run my business and travel again? Will those I love be able to stay healthy? . It was all incredibly overwhelming to say the least, but turns out, a “year that was cancelled” turned out to be just what I needed. I slowed down. I stayed home. I took solace in nature, and explored the Great Smoky Mountains of TN, the Pisgah National Forest of NC, Shenandoah National Park, Acadia National Park, and the White Mountains of NH. I started a “Hike Club” with some new friends who were also longing for a safe, outdoor activity that fosters connection, and logged 565 miles from April to December! I saw places and spent time with friends new and old that I never would have if 2020 “went to plan.” But most importantly, I learned that you can never really plan for the future. You only can live for today, and in that, this recovering planner and workaholic is finding a lot of peace and healing. . 2020 pushed me to my edge without a doubt. But it also made me wake up to all I was taking for granted, and all of the personal growth and joy that one can find in the unknown. Cheers to 2021, and continuing to blaze new trails.
