Y'all, I'm super excited to announce a little side project! Food is sort of my language and I want to use it more usefully. I am going to - get this - record simple conversations once in awhile as I attempt to know the people I cross paths with a little better.
Meet Zindan, a Kurdish friend of mine living in Nashville. He owns a driving company 🚗 [@laveen_transportation ] and his story is incredible. His life has been filled with twists and turns since the beginning. Before his mother even knew she was pregnant with him, her husband (Z's father) was murdered by the regime in Iraq. Still though, it would be another couple of decades until he would meet a woman and make the journey to the US only to be met with a whole new set of challenges.
I tend to be a little pessimistic and many of you know that about me. I'm not easily fooled by bullshitters and I'm usually skeptical that happiness can even exist beyond little moments - but I'll tell you this guy is probably the proudest and happiest person I've ever met. I just seemed happy because @edessa.nashville fed me so well.
Reuniting our nation starts with understanding who our neighbors are. Food (bread in particular) are a good starting point in getting to know a little about a fellow human.
More coming soon!
