With now close to 800 cases in the US and more than 7k globally, it is important to know the signs. 1. MP usually starts 4-21 days after a big social event. Skin to skin contact and sharing personal objects appear to be the biggest modes of transmission. This is not an STI. 2. Symptoms start as a flu-like illness (fevers, chills, muscle aches) then the monkeypox bumps appear. 3. The MP bumps can look just like ACNE. They are usually more painful, solitary (on their own), and can have a volcano-shape to them. 4. If you think you’ve been exposed -> get the vaccine ASAP. Works 4-14 days after exposure to stop MP or reduce the severity. 5. Check cdc.gov/monkeypox for more info. Your local HD website will also have info on the vaccine/testing. 6. Stay safe.
