Rokurokubi, is a Yokai that appears as a normal woman during the day, but by night her neck will stretch and carry her head great distances. They’re known to attack small animals and drink blood. They also seem to savor drinking lamp oil for some reason. We started hearing tales of the Rokurokubi in the Japan’s Edo period. (1603-1868) These renders are a direct result of visual experimentation for Kodama to better understand the style we want to go with when depicting something that’s been depicted countless times in Japanese pop culture as well as discovering the color palette and lighting I hope to achieve in the end.
