Reposted from @sallymcmullin 🤎 ‘BLACK STORIES We Should All Know’ 👉🏾 AZIE TAYLOR MORTON was the FIRST BLACK UNITED STATES TREASURER 👉🏾 she was appointed by President Jimmy Carter in 1977 and she served until 1981 💰💰💰 The Treasurer’s signature is on all US currency - Azie Taylor Morton’s signature was on ALL MONEY during the time she served 👉🏾 Since 1949 all the US Treasurers have been WOMEN and Mrs. Morton has been the ONLY BLACK PERSON to hold the position 👉🏾She also served on JFK’s committee for equal employment opportunity 👉🏾Azie Taylor Morton graduated from Huston-Tillotson College (now University) 👉🏾she was passionate about PREPARING YOUNG PEOPLE socially, academically, and professionally. 👉🏾she was passionate about giving back to her community because her community had given so much to her ❤️Mrs. Morton was born and raised in Texas - there is a street in Austin named after her 🗣️ “I was born to a mother who was deaf and could not speak.
