A blend of songs to capture the feelings of communal living. Falling in love, falling out of love, building homes, farming together, consensus decision making, having children and on and on. While doing this show I was integrating into my new life as land steward at @salmon_creek_farm . Immersing myself in the archives, the stories and dynamics that this land holds in its soil today. It felt natural to make an episode dedicated to this special world of communal living in the redwoods. SCF was established in 1971 by a group of young people rejecting mainstream culture. This commune grew out of the student protest culture of the late 60's by those disenchanted with the society they were inheriting from previous generations. They were resisting the Vietnam war and general mindless consumer conformity, while promoting issues like civil rights, gay liberation and environmental consciousness. They learned how to build their own homes and grow their own food while living communally, exploring Native American rituals, and practicing consensus decision-making. In 2014 SCF was purchased by artist Fritz Haeg. the legacy continues while entering a new chapter as long-term art project shaped by many hands, a sort of queered commune-farm-homestead-sanctuary- school hybrid.
