Today marks the 81st anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. On December 7, 1941, the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service launched a surprise military strike on the United States and the world turned upside down. This attack drew the United States into World War II, and changed the course of global history in the 20th century. Survivors, veterans, and visitors from around the world come together in remembrance.
To commemorate the many lives lost during the attack, Pearl Harbor National Memorial was constructed at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickman on Oahu Island in Hawaii. The park includes nine historic sites representing various aspects of the war in the Pacific.
