World War II military bases like those in the Aleutian Islands embraced STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) before it was a “thing.” Aerographers used science and the best technology of the day to provide weather forecasts to keep pilots and sailors safe in unpredictable weather. Many soldiers were part of Combat Engineer units and used math and hard work to build essential roads, landing strips, and buildings to add infrastructure for the troops. Troop morale was improved by the local newspaper, The Adakian, headed by famed author Dashiell Hammett and his integrated staff of soldiers who wrote stories and illustrated comics. How do you use STEAM in your daily life? #PoweredBySTEAM #steam #WWII #FindYourPark #EncuentraTuParque Alt text: Three men in uniform in a Quonset hut.
