This is a story of how Black women made magic in less than 2 weeks ✨From the moment I found out I was nominated for an Emmy, I knew I wanted to be very intentional in how I presented myself in this new space. I spent a month putting together a mood board and reaching out to stylists and designers — to no avail 😩 With only a month left, I tried ordering dresses online but they either didn’t come in my size, didn’t fit once they arrived, or just felt too plain for my personality. After being ghosted by a designer I thought I was working with, I had to just meditate and ask the ancestors for guidance. Enter @summerjoi 🌻Her name literally just popped into my head and I DM’d her immediately. We hadn’t been in touch in years and I just prayed she remembered me and was magically available. She messaged me like 10 min later and turns out, SHE WAS DOWN!!! By the next morning, I was at her house showing her my mood board and the rest is history. We found the fabric together a WEEK before the Emmys and she literally delivered everything to my house at 2am the night before the big day. Moral of the story: Never give up on your vision. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE with Black women!! ☺️ We ended up making hella best dressed lists — Shoutout to @bet @graziauk & @cosmopolitan. Once I realized I had to produce this red carpet moment just like I approached producing the show, the whole experience went from being incredibly frustrating to beyond satisfying. It’s giving my whole warddrobe is finna be custom! Cuz WHY NOT?! Watch out for US!! We cominnnn 😉
