We are no longer in an era of climate change, we have moved into the time of climate collapse. All reports show that we must cut emissions by 45% by 2030 to remain below 2 degrees C pre-industrial warming levels. We know that those numbers are not accurate and even if we cut a large portion of emissions we are on track for over 3 degrees C and that is IF we are are successful in cutting these emissions in the next 7 years. Best case scenario is over 3 degrees C by 2030 and worst case is unknowable but will lead to ecological collapse and human extinction. All current food systems are based on growing under 2 degrees C, we do not have time to adapt our resources and production within the next 7 years. Without acknowledging our place in creating and maintaining the problem: without taking responsibility for our consumption patterns, our climate privilege, our capitalist mindset - most of which are traits and behaviors we have been indoctrinated into without choice - we have no ability to be part of the change without accepting our own fault. We must die on our sword and die to our individual selves in order to become the change we want to see and to develop long term solutions to the biggest existential crisis of all time. Thank you Burning Man for giving us the platform to discuss these radically honest truths. Thank you to everyone who showed up and spoke up, to all of the questions, challenges and abundance of love. Thank you to our team and the commitment of so many people to step into the truth and help wake each other up to the biggest collective goal. We must end this capitalist mindset of unlimited growth and start focusing on moving forward into the new earth, a regenerative future based on love for all beings. We have a long way to go, especially at Burning Man, we must ask to go forward in a regenerative way: stop burning propane and natural gas for fun, ban private jets, limit fossil fuel generator usage and eventually ban RVs. Come back to the roots of why we are burning the man - to evolve the conscious mind of humanity and break free from the limitations that are holding us down.
