I am working backwards here. And forward. Choosing colours to fill my palette and my Sendak whilst I pack up the rest of my studio for a soon move with an unclear date. ⁠ ⁠ The colours look like my first bedroom. Green, Yellow, Orange. Did the wallpaper have chickens with the houses and the trees? Were the houses upside-down and right-side up? That was the room where I remember being afraid of shadows, of shapes. The room with the record player that I re-found recently, blue plastic. I wrote as small as I could on paper then hoping the player would understand and play it back. Is the wallpaper, I wonder, still affixed to the walls, underneath so many layers of others' choices like so many places I've been in since?⁠ ⁠ I should knock on their door and ask.
