Putting finishing touches on TOTAL INSANITY before it left the studio for the @christiesinc auction to support @amfar This body of work started after the passing of my grandmother, when I found a storage bin of her quilting scraps. I photocopied and scanned each piece meticulously and started making collages, juxtaposing the floral motifs with language from flyers, zines and other memorabilia in my collection. The inspiration for these works came from a vivid memory of standing in my grandparents living room talking to my grandmother with an in progress quilt draped over her lap and being stuck by the similarities between the punk patches sewn onto my clothing and the scraps of cloth she was piecing together.
