As a neurosurgeon I work every day, including nights and many weekends and holidays. Even on days or nights that I am not "on-call" for emergencies, I am always available for my patients. Most neurosurgeons and many other surgical specialists practice this way. So does work ever really end? Not exactly. But I can generally structure my day around important events as long as I have advanced notice. Balance is a goal that is always just out of reach....
