40 lbs. /18.2 kg. Dumbbells “Benchless” Press - age 54, November 15, 2022, 9:46 pm My only problem with Bench Pressing is the bench. For getting strong AF in the upper body, and building a chest, it’s perfect and necessary. Since I use bench and floor press movements to improve almost everything BUT my chest, I sometimes like to do the Benchless Press. I don’t practice martial arts anymore, but I still keep all of my training relevant to the rigors and demands of fighting. I prefer using a sandbag because it’s already too short, it’s solid, yet it’s comfortable where it supports the mid spine curvature during this exercise. When setting up for this, I want the edge of the sandbag to support a point one inch below the lowest edge of the shoulder blades. I get much better upper body control and recruitment when my scapulae are free to move without being encumbered by a bench, and my legs and core are bracing the upper body due to the lack of support. This version of the chest press is not the best choice for strength or size, but I like to direct it’s attributes to strengthening the mid spine and core. Much aloha 🌺
