Consultation Tips The consultation is where everything can go right or everything can go wrong. As professionals this should be a skill we are fine tuning throughout our career. Communication in my opinion will determine about 90% of your success and the other 10% is your execution! Here are some new ways to think about the consultation process: 1. What can we do to make them feel comfortable in our space? Are we towering over them or sitting across from them? Do they know where the restroom is? Did we offer them refreshments? Are we letting them speak before we interject? How can they tell if we are listening to them? 2. What questions are we asking? Are we asking the right questions? Are we asking questions that will create certainty in our process? Are we using visuals? Are we including them in the process or are we chatting for a minute and going to mix up after a 2 second chat? 3. Are we treating every guest like a new guest or are we taking for granted our “bread and butter” clients? What’s more important: the first visit or the third visit? What are we doing to keep them engaged? 4. Are we being fair and transparent about the financial and time investment required to meet their needs? Sticker shock will run your business into the ground and undercharging will drain your soul of appreciation and cause resentment to build over time. Are our pricing systems dialed in? Does every guest feel like your services are WORTH the financial and time investment? I hope these questions open up your mind and get you thinking about the bigger picture instead of copying a style from a photo and wishing for the best.
