GRADUATION DAY She’s a master of art now ya’ll When navigating this country and the institutions within it I continuously reflect on their fucked up histories and the inability to detach them from the patriarchal, capitalist, colonial structures that birthed them and continue to uphold them to this day. I always expected arts institutions to be the more progressive, more open, more liberal and more critical spaces that can act as an example for other institutions and industries, but unfortunately the reality is it’s more of the same. Profits, expansion and accolades seem to matter much more than individual experiences, wellbeing and safety... Coming out the other side I wanna try as much as possible to take what I can and push for changes that accommodate and celebrate difference. This can be a pretty confusing place to be in, because exposure to these systems obviously always leaves its mark and I wonder how much I’m able to objectively critique or reflect on these structures... At the same time though, being able to celebrate with family and friends encourages me to push towards a space that feels genuine, caring and open. A space that can be inhabited and critically reflected upon. It’s a journey and has been a large basis of my work and personal connections and conversations over the years which has been made possibly by the support I’ve had and felt around me. So thank you. And let’s keep going ya’ll ♥️ Another shout out to 3 generations in these pics ♥️
