For years I wanted to experience the game of Pelota. It is played almost entirely in the Basque Country, and is the most simple of ball games. Blue against red. Hand against ball. Ball against wall. The pelota ball is extremely hard, hand made only, and is made of a wooden core, yarn, rubber, and leather. The game is physically demanding not only because of the intense movement of the players during the game, but also because of the destructive impact the ball has on the palms. The pain is overruled by the beauty and joy of the game. Pelota is played in Frontons. I visited many of these an finally went to see a game the past week. On grey days I watch @jeg_er_jorgen_leth film about Pelota. A perfect piece of art. I thank @bettykrag for taking many of these pictures and enjoying the game with me.
