This picture is from the last day I skied, in late March. I had a baby growing in me, but was still skiing well and planned to make turns deep into the spring. It was such a fun day, shooting photos at @deervalleyresort with an awesome group of people. Then the next day I had my 20 week ultrasound, and I learned the remainder of my pregnancy was going to be far different than I imagined, grappling with a high risk complication. Today is my son Ryker's original due date. I didn't think that it was going to hold much weight because he arrived safely three weeks ago, but it surprised me how much passing this milestone mattered. August 14th was a date I had been holding in my heart from the moment I found out I was pregnant. Even when I found out he had to come early, today remained a special day. I feel I can finally breathe a little easier, and start looking forward. The fever dream that is life with a newborn continues, but I am beginning to envision my new chapter as an athlete, creative, and mother-of-two. I don't think I really allowed myself to mentally manifest it until now due to fear, and frankly, self-preservation. My heart goes out to every parent and parent-to-be; I know that we ALL wrestle with this to varying degrees. I am so blessed.
