Last week, I attended the @DohaForum in Qatar. I was there to ask global leaders to increase humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, where millions of Afghans face a rising health, economic and human rights crisis. I was also there to advocate for the end of the de facto ban on girls’ secondary education in Afghanistan after the Taliban reversed their decision to reopen schools for girls on March 22. I spoke alongside Afghan women’s rights activists @fawziakoofi77 and Fatima Gailani and Muslim scholars @imamomarsuleiman and @DaliaFFahmy on a panel discussing the future prospects for women and girls in Afghanistan. We called on leaders of Muslim countries to stand up for Afghan women and girls. We also challenged Muslim leaders to reinforce the Islamic imperative for girls’ education and to hold the Taliban accountable for their actions. While in Doha, I also spent time with the Afghan Dreamers, an all-girls robotics team, founded by @roya.mahboob_ . Since their evacuation from Afghanistan last fall, the girls have continued to work on their robotics projects and inspire so many girls around the world to pursue STEM. It was amazing to see the team’s creative innovations on display at the Forum. On my last day, I visited the Qatar National Library, where I hosted a @DohaDebates town hall with @nelufar.h and university students from around the world to discuss the crisis in Afghanistan, youth activism and barriers to girls’ education.
