Da Shu (大暑): Major Heat 🔥 We've entered the 12th seasonal point and the hottest period of the year. In many places humidity is also off the charts with heavier rainfalls, thunderstorms, and monsoons.
To Eat:
The priority is still focused on clearing heat from the body and building Qi since high temperatures deplete and weaken it.
🙅🏻♀️ Cut down on frozen smoothies or acai bowls, especially on an empty stomach. Also avoid fatty, greasy foods since they are inflammatory and create internal heat.
🍉 Seasonal produce to enjoy: watermelon, winter melon, bitter melon, all the melons, tomatoes, lotus root, Shan Yao (Chinese yam), okra, cucumber, water chestnuts, stone fruits, mung bean.
🌱 Herbs that invigorate the Spleen: cilantro, mint, perilla, basil, chervil, parsley, oregano, lemon balm.
🫖 Cooling teas to invigorate your heart and spirits this summer: lotus leaf, tulsi, mint + licorice root, ginger + lime
Add a small handful of herbs as needed in hot water, steep for 5 minutes, take a deep breath, enjoy 😌
To Do:
🛁 Take a warm bath or soak your feet in mugwort herbs-infused water. The ideal time is about 30-40 minutes.
