BCAM 22 Today marks the start of a new month & in turn the start of Breast Cancer Awareness Month The ribbon colour for Breast Cancer is Pink, so you will see a lot of pink around over the next few weeks, but although pink, breast cancer is far from pretty It's raw It's real It's scary It's mentally damaging It's physically demanding It's life changing It's ugly It's tough At 25 I found out I had breast cancer. It doesn't just and affect older people. It can affect anyone at any age. But even scarier than breast cancer is metastatic breast cancer. I was diagnosed with this at only 28 years old. It only gets 1 day of awareness in the whole month, but this is the one that is deadly. Metastatic breast cancer is incurable, underfunded & often misunderstood. 31 people a day lose their life to stage 4 BC & in comparison to primary BC, it is very under funded with only a small % of the fundraising going to this area This month will be triggering for many in different ways and remember it is okay to take a step back if you need to. There will see many campaigns all raising awareness & money for charities. Some with good intentions, others just to boost their sales. Please do your research. If you want to support a charity then great, just make sure you know how much of your money is being donated & where the money is going to. Some companies are donating huge amounts, others as little as 1%. Sometimes it will be better just to donate your money directly For those wishing to make sure secondary breast cancer gets a look in I have tagged some charities you can support Whilst we are talking about breast cancer, please spend the next few weeks educating yourself on the signs & symptoms of primary & secondary BC.
