Using rebreathers to “feel more safe”? ... (and the crowd goes wild over ludicrous statement) 🧨🫣 - A rebreather can be killing you for minutes, without you even noticing! ☝️ - There are so SO many failure points on a rebreather! All those o-rings... - It is extremely hard to understand the theory behind rebreathers, you won’t get it unless you’re a geek. And if you don’t get it, you’re practically dead. - Rebreathers are hard to dive, and bringing them in caves is lethal. - You should never feel safe on a rebreather – it WILL try to kill you at some point. Harsh statements heard in classrooms and at dive sites. Some are facts. Some are not. If you are already a rebreather diver, you know that one of the benefits is the extended gas supply. This can be a mental help, when having to solve tasks, or dealing with critical issues. Therefore... diving a rebreather makes ME feel “safer” - in some situations! Knowing that I am not burning through gas by exhaling it into the water, but rather circulating it efficiently. There are many benefits to rebreather diving, but also some definite drawbacks. What are your thoughts? Happy SAFE diving. ❤️ #girlsthattechdive @bollerup_gonediving 📷 Richie Schmittner from LightFactory.
