California’s coast has been battered by a series of extreme bomb cyclones resulting in massive surf, devastating erosion, significant flooding, power outages, and catastrophic impacts to California’s coastal environment and communities. The severe weather is part of an atmospheric river system hitting the west coast. With additional storms forecasted, Surfrider extends our deepest condolences to people, homes and businesses affected. Climate scientists predict the west coast will continue to see more dramatic storms, like this, and accelerated erosion with climate change. This is why Surfrider is prioritizing our work at the local, regional, and federal levels to proactively respond to these impacts.
