The Aleutian Campaign, including the only World War II land battle fought on American soil, is often a forgotten part of American history. A possibly even more neglected part of American history is the forced evacuation and internment of the Unangax̂ people, who have lived in the Aleutian Islands for thousands of years. Some were taken to Japan as prisoners of war, and others were taken to decrepit canneries and camps in Southeast Alaska by the US government.
