MAKE IT MAKE SENSE. I just don’t understand. With every step forward it feels like a whole lot of sliding backwards. And I’m tired. It’s exhausting. What needs to happen for our country to recognize the importance of women.? Ok scratch that- not even the importance of women- THE EQUALITY of women? Our bodies are being discussed and controlled by the government. The sanctity of the patient physician relationship has been violated. Women are forced to face a life sentence they may not be prepared for financially and emotionally. In some instances this means a lifelong punishment is imposed upon the victim. Making a mistake is all of a sudden damning for only one party. And let’s be honest these discussions don’t pertain to people with the means and money to do what they want. This is meant to control those already oppressed. So here’s where I’m lost. There is no part of my being that will ever get on board with controlling anyone else’s body but let’s just say for a second we all got on board with it. Where is the support afterwards? We care so much about this clump of cells right? We think it’s a life at conception and life is sacred correct? So then how exactly are we going to make sure those lives affected- both the mother & the baby thrive? Simultaneously we have no laws protecting women in the workplace when it comes to pregnancy and the postpartum period. Nothing. Forget the rampant discrimination, micro aggressions, & hostile work environments young women face all over the country- we currently have no infrastructure in place to support the vehicle that brings this sacred life into the world. Make it make sense. This land of freedom & opportunity no longer seems so free and those opportunities only for the perfect specimen- white, male, hetero, cis.
