On the occasion of Ashley Bickerton's (@ashleybickerton) Artist Spotlight, we're looking back to the artist's first survey work in the United States, which which took place at the FLAG Art Foundation (@flagartfoundation), New York, in 2017. This survey demonstrated the visual range of Bickerton’s oeuvre, which oscillates between playfulness and brutality, extreme beauty and the grotesque. Works from the artist’s signature series from the 1980s to the present, highlighted his subversive and self-aware critique of identity, consumerism, and cultural artifice.
