Today we want to congratulate maCES (Maywood Center for Enriched Studies) Roots & Shoots club from LA county on receiving a Human Relations Award for Being the Change We Wish to See, through LAUSD! Students in this Roots & Shoots school club saw first-hand the effects of the COVID pandemic on their community—including job loss, homelessness, and food insecurity. Their empathy led to action, and they joined with local organization LCLAA to organize and participate in food distributions that fed over 300 families each! This award is well-deserved, so once again, congratulations to the maCES Roots & Shoots group for embodying what it means to be compassionate changemakers in your community!
