Hi everyone! Welcome in and thanks for joining me in this space. I wanted to take the time to introduce my family if you have a few minutes! I’m Jessie, a primary teacher from the UK, who emigrated to the United States several years ago. I have a BA in Primary Ed with specialism in teaching English! At the end of course of study I completed part of a master’s degree which focused on psycholinguistics and dramatic enquiry for writing in the classroom. Right now, I’m in grad school for Maths ed, which I love - but what a difference to English! At present, we live in sunny North Carolina, with our two children, A and T. We are a military family, but in the week my husband and I work from home! I absolutely love teaching but the education system has changed so much over the past decade, that I felt I needed to seek alternative methods of education that spoke to all children: that’s how I came across Dr Maria Montesssori’s methods of teaching. We apply her methods to our home in principle and follow the teachings that work for us. I am a huge advocate of organic learning. This takes place where children are allowed to discover and learn things for themselves at their own pace with guided support where necessary. I also am an advocate for parents having autonomy over how they want their child (on an individual level) to be educated. I feel that we do rush children through education so that they become employable statistics. It’s been an honor to meet so many likeminded parents on this platform. My message box is always open, feel free to reply to any of my stories or comment freely. This space is one of mutual respect. I may not always reply (because of my scatterbrain) but that doesn’t mean I feel any less privileged to hear from you. I try to show the whole picture in my posts and stories which means you’ll probably see my messy house, dog licking the baby and hear lots of background noise! Thank you for being here and I look forward to sharing more of regular family life stuff. It’s not always specifically Montessori because... I literally cannot afford all the specific Montessori ‘stuff’ but it’s thereabouts!
