♦️up nextttttttt ♦️ Melissa Lewis Wong @lemelissa May 3+10 2-4pm @bandaloopstudios emptiness practices in this open class, we will greet each other, warm up (our breath, our spines, our voices) and then move slowly - quickly - smaller - bigger. Melissa will share prompts from a web of different practices and lineages they are student to, including: taiji / Chinese martial arts, drag, Chinese folk dance, diasporic Buddhism, contemporary dance, writing and voice. Class explorations may traverse: lipsycing to a song we all mostly know, learning a short spacious movement sequence, trying on some simple improvisational questions. the body is always present - we’ll let it be big, tiny, full and empty. the class will end in stillness (short, guided meditation) and writing. About: Melissa Lewis Wong (they/she/他) is a Bay-Area-based queer, non-binary Chinese American performer, artist and administrator. Deuce Lee is their drag persona, occasionally haunting Clutch the Pearls. Melissa has been a settler working + performing in Yelamu (SF) since 2010 with various Bay Area organizations + dance companies, including DETOUR, Fog Beast, Megan Lowe Dances, Rebecca Fitton, & KRIMM. Melissa is a founding member of Asian Babe Gang, a collective of queer diasporic Asian-American artists. Melissa’s creative practice also spans analog photography, drawing, meditation and martial arts.
