photo&make up by @sasha_gymn style: @sasha.archive While the crab was considered during Antiquity as a protective animal, its reputation changed in the Middle Ages, like that of all sea creatures. It has even become evil, symbol of walking sea monsters; this rejection is surely aggravated by its scavenger habits. On the contrary, in Asia, species of the genus Dorippe, on the shell of which a human face can be seen, are highly sought after because, according to legend, they contain the souls of deceased warriors. The motif of the crab holding a butterfly with outstretched wings in its claws appears on the reverse of a coin of Augustus. But it is best known from the Renaissance as an illustration of the motto Festina Slowe12.
