Exactly 6 years ago I was embarking on my journey to freedom. Freedom from the stereotype of a surgeons hours. Freedom from a boss. Freedom from mom guilt in not knowing how much involvement I would have in mundane tasks like drop offs and pick ups. Freedom from insurance companies and suits in the hospital. Freedom from misogyny & hostile work environments. Freedom from the inevitable burnout path of clinical medicine. Freedom from feeling like I couldn’t plan for another child bc of it being a burden on my career. Private practice ownership is not for everyone. But you know what is? Autonomy Passion & Excitement for what you do day in and day out Professional growth Personal growth The feeling of success Feeling a sense of endless possibilities Rejuvenation Connection with like minded individuals A sense of hope for your career, family, hobbies Meet @drrupawong , @nataliecrawfordmd & @mamadoctorjones . I can’t tell you how intensely passionate we are about all of this. You may look at the beautiful squares on the gram, the comical clips on tik tok, the educational videos on YouTube and not totally understand what role it has made on our career paths- but I promise you it is all in an effort to own clinical medicine in a way we can practice what we trained so long and hard for and enjoy our personal and professional lives to the fullest. Be successful AT medicine. Be successful in our lives at home. Be successful in all the parts that make up our identity as a physician. Do you want some of this?
