How has it already been a month? Ryker impresses me more every day. He is such a little trooper. Forced to embrace the hallmarks of being a second-born, he withstands the longer waits, jostles, and bumps that occur when trying to juggle the needs of a newborn while also supporting a toddler with little more than a wince. No less precious than his sister to me, I am admittedly less precious with him. It might be because I am more confident in my parenting and this is not entirely new or it also might just be out of necessity (survival?), but it is just a fact. For example, Holly wasn't sick, for better or worse and in part due to covid, once during her first year of life, while Ryker is sniffling and snuffling through his first cold as I type. Every milestone was celebrated with some semblance of fanfare with our first, and- case in point- I am already two days late taking the classic "month-old" pic next to a beloved stuffed animal for reference. Maybe I will get to it today? And then again, maybe not. All that being said, Ryker has made our family complete in a way I could not have imagined. Even in the womb I could sense he was strong and- I know this seems odd- considerate. He exhibits this daily from the incredible way he can throw his head back and hold it, to his preternatural patience... I could not love him more. My sweet boy, one month down, and a lifetime to go.
