A little over a month ago, I was in Squamish. I’d been training a bunch, fresh off my Brazil trip. I made easy work of a handful of classics that weren’t technical crimp lines. Then the plague finally got me.
I recently returned with high expectations from the previous trip, and was immediately shut down on everything I tried. I watched my friends crush everything while I fell off the top of it all. It was really hard to not feel demoralized.
My covid was fairly mild. My only real symptoms were congestion, coughing, and fatigue. But that still took a lot of my power away. I’m trying to be kind to myself. Instead of thinking that I should be stronger, I’m trying to reframe it as it’s only been a month and I’m still getting back into it.
Climbing and progress aren’t linear or exponential. Strength comes and goes. Things are sometimes easy and sometimes they’re hard. Beating yourself up over it is pointless. The best thing to do is have fun, laugh, and eat lots of snacks.
