I’m sold on Ohio summers. I’ve loved running into SO many wonderful native butterflies out here (Spicebush, eastern black swallowtails, eastern tigers, Canadian tigers, viceroy, and many others we don’t see out west!) while visiting John’s family. Common milkweed can be seen popping up just about everywhere (abandoned lots, farms, hedgerows, etc.) but it’s easy to see that we still need even more pesticide and herbicide free host plants/ nectar plants to keep Monarchs going. If you’re lucky to be growing out this way, consider some native milkweeds and other native prairie plants to support the migration. When I haven’t been looking for butterflies or asking my boyfriend to stop and inspect every milkweed for possible caterpillar 🐛 activity 😂 we’ve been swimming in the lake, napping, drawing, playing pickleball, and staying up to watch a show of fireflies at sunset every evening.
