This will be the second holiday season Seattle Children’s Building Maintenance Technician, Jerome and his wife Christine will spend in the hospital with their family. Kaelyn, their daughter, has been waiting for a heart transplant at Seattle Children's since July 2021. To make sure Kaelyn had the best possible outcome, they quickly moved to Seattle. Jerome and Christine had no time to prepare for their move. Thankfully, the family’s social worker, Maricel, helped connect them with Seattle Children’s Financial Counseling team. For many families who don’t qualify for government health insurance programs, Seattle Children’s has a financial assistance program, largely funded by donors, that can help cover the cost of medical care.
